crispy filled cookies

(good!)

1 3/4 cups sifted flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup soft shortening
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/4 cup water
1 teasp. vanilla extract
1 cup mashed corn flakes or bran flakes

Sift flour, baking powder and salt.  Mix shortening and sugar until creamy; add flour mixture alternately with combined water & vanilla.  mix well.  Mix in cereal.  Refrigerate until easy to handle.

Roll dough to 1/8 inch thick on lightly floured board.  Cut with 3" cutter or glass.  Place on ungreased cookie sheet; place a dot of filling (jam, etc.) on the cookie.  Fold at the middle & join 2 edges by forking.  Bake at 425 degrees for 10 minutes.
